Harness mechanical energy from wind to lift weights
Generate electricity to light and LED and charge a battery
Learn the physics of wind turbines
Discover how wind occurs and why it is such a promising energy source
Product Description Renewable Energy Science Kit. Build a working wind turbine to harness power out of thin air. Wind is one of the most promising sources of clean, renewable energy available today. Wind energy has been used for centuries to pump water and crush grain in windmills, and is now increasingly being used to generate electricity to power our modern world.
First, assemble a wind turbine complete with electric generator, adjustable rotors, and wind speed indicator…. More >>
Watch video of Lawrence Kazmerski, director of the National Center for Photovoltaics in the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, discussing the prospects of solar-photovoltaic (PV) technologies, arguing that this solar-electricity source is at a tipping point in the very complex realm of worldwide energy at Vanderbilt University Dec. 3, 2007.
The rapid depletion of fossil fuels and the rising sea level from the warming of the earth’s atmosphere are converging to dramatically alter our future. Edward Mazria, founder of Architecture 2030, unveils a new study of sea level rise showing fly-over 3D images depicting potentially calamitous coastal and national impacts. I’m doing a project in Science and am wondering if some other form of getting your water will save more energy…or is running on well water the best alternative?
My name is Greg Davis, and I'm a long time DIY'er and proponent of clean, green energy. I'm not trained as an electrician or anything like that, but I've always liked to work in my home shop and am pretty good with building things with my hands. I figured it would be an interesting and challenging project to see if I could put together some basic solar and wind power generators on a budget, using supplies I could get locally. And so this blog was born!
